The GBC/ACM, IEEE Communications and Computer Societies are cosponsoring this joint technical meeting.
This presentation will outline industry approaches to protecting networks and systems. It will discuss what some ISPs are doing, what companies should be doing, as well as what everyone can do to protect their home networks and smart mobile devices.
The talk is intended for anyone that wants to learn more about network security basics and how they can be applied. The presentation will start with an overview of the state of network security and detail some of the latest threats from malware. Then the discussion will focus on the necessary layers of defense to protect networks and systems. Examples and lessons learned will be discussed throughout the talk.
Venue Note: This is our venue at the new Verizon Technology Center Campus in Waltham.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the new meeting auditorium at the Verizon Technology Center. The address is 60 Sylvan Road, Waltham, MA 02451. The entrance is by the far corner – with the picnic tables out front – and not the tower or the new building. It is most easily reached by the West Street entrance.

David Dumas, CISSP, CISM, ISSA Distinguished Fellow, Senior Network Security Engineer with Verizon
David is a Senior Network Security Engineer working directly for the Chief Network Security Officer of Verizon's Wireline Security Operations group. His current work involves outsourcing, offshoring, Federal regulations, Global cyber and privacy regulations, customer visits/presentations, and he is a Verizon representative on outside committees. David was the Director of Verizon's Network Security Architecture and Design group for 9 years prior to his new role. In that role he led efforts on network security, PKI, FiOS security, security governance and risk assessments.
Previously David worked for Digital Equipment Corporation for 14 years and established their Security Consulting Practice.
David is and author and presenter on the topic of securing networks. He has 27 years in the security field and a background in computer science and security consulting.
