Ginkgo Bioworks is a biological engineering company that has had a unique opportunity to mitigate the impact of the SARS-CoV-19 pandemic. This talk will focus on the design, development, and validation of a massively scaled testing platform based on Next-Generation Sequencing, independent cart conveyance technology, collaborative robotics, and laboratory automation. Due to a pre-existing general technology platform for biological engineering, Ginkgo has been able to rapidly contribute to the public health response of COVID-19, including vaccine manufacturing process optimization, contributing research assets to free repositories of biological material, genomic sequencing to identify and monitor coronavirus mutants, and scaled surveillance testing for virus detection.

Jeff Lou is an Automation Architect at Ginkgo Bioworks and one of the designers of the Concentric testing service recently initiated by Ginkgo Bioworks.

This joint meeting of the Boston Chapter of the IEEE Computer Society and GBC/ACM will be online only due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
