GBC/ACM Privacy Policy

The Greater Boston Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (GBC/ACM) is committed to protecting the privacy of its members and event participants. GBC/ACM recognizes the interest of its members and customers in the confidentiality of their personal information. GBC/ACM only maintains personal information that is relevant to GBC/ACM activities and seeks to maintain accurate, complete, and timely information.
- GBC/ACM maintains a membership databases and we collect registrant information from meetings, seminars and other events. This data is used for our event, marketing, financial and membership management purposes only. The information stored in these systems are only accessed by authorized GBC/ACM personnel to process orders, to mail invoices, purchases, renewal notices and announcements, to respond to member inquiries, and to help us improve our offerings.
- On some pages of our site we allow individuals to submit information for the purposes of joining GBC/ACM, renewing or updating their membership or signing up for GBC/ACM mailings.
- The security of personal information is important to GBC/ACM. GBC/ACM maintains all personal data with technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect against loss, unauthorized access, destruction, misuse, modification, and improper disclosure. No computer system or information can ever be fully protected against every possible hazard. GBC/ACM provides reasonable and appropriate security controls to protect personal information against foreseeable hazards.
- Other than in the restricted-access portions of GBC/ACM's site that require a user account, GBC/ACM does not log the identity of visitors. However, we may keep access logs, for example containing a visitor's IP address and search queries. We may analyze log files periodically to help maintain and improve our Web site and enforce our online service polices. Cookies are only set when users visit restricted portions of our website. Raw log files are treated as confidential and retained as long as necessary.
- Event registration, payment processing, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and other chapter processes are managed through a number of established and well regarded vendors. GBC/ACM will never request or keep your Sensitive Personal Information (SPI), including credit card information, date of birth or social security numbers. - GBC/ACM will never otherwise share our member and event participant’s information with other organizations, except as follows:
- As a professional chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), we are required to supply our membership list to ACM annually. We may contact you with offers and event information on behalf of other organizations who are compatible with our educational charter.
- Joint cosponsors of events with GBC/ACM, will have access to registrant contact information. Some event venues may require GBC/ACM to supply attendee contact information and may check photo identification on-site. We may contact you with offers and event information on behalf of other event sponsors and supporters, however we do not supply them your contact information.
- Just like any other record keeper, GBC/ACM may be required to disclose personal information in response to valid legal process. This includes a search warrant, subpoena, or court order. Disclosures may also be appropriate to protect GBC/ACM's legal rights or during emergencies if physical safety is believed to be at risk. These disclosures are possible although unlikely.
- If you wish to have your contact information removed with respect to future contact by GBC/ACM, then send a request for removal to us using the contact information below.
